9 Men‘s Morris, in either of its two rule sets. Pick one on the buttons shown
before the first move; the board and the men are the same for both.
To Win
Leave your opponent with less than 3 men, or without any possibility to play his turn.
To Play
Each time you align 3 of your men, you can remove one of your opponent's men from the game.
You start with 9 men each.
There are two phases in the game:
- placing the men: at each turn you put one men on an available position (=all intersections and corners)
- moving men: this phase starts when all the men are on the board. At your turn move one men from its position to an adjacent available position.
The two rule sets
They differ on two points, and the second is easy to miss.
- 9 Men‘s Morris: men always move to an adjacent position, and a man
standing in a mill cannot be removed.
- 9 Men‘s Morris Fly: a player reduced to 3 men may move one of them
to any available position, not only an adjacent one - and a man standing in
a mill can be removed.
The choice is remembered, so the next game opens on the set you played last.
